Ciro (Sal) A. Miceli was born on June 4, 1944 in Burgio, Sicily to Giuseppe and Cira Miceli. In 1955, at the age of 11, Ciro immigrated with his family to the United States through Ellis Island.
After spending 11 days on the SS Conte Biancamano, the Miceli family arrived in the port of New York. The majority of those days he fell seasick, relying on his older brothers Domenick and Tony to pilfer bread, crackers, and lemons to soothe his sickness. Upon arriving in New York, the Miceli family settled in the Bushwick area.
During high school, Ciro learned upholstery as a trade, becoming efficient and a master in furniture upholstering and drapery. In 1965 he was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War. Stationed at Fort Dix, he was trained as a heavy weapons infantryman. Sgt. Ciro Miceli served his country proudly and honorably, dedicating 4 years to military service. After serving his country, Ciro attended Pace University School of Insurance, becoming a corporate insurance underwriter, a career that would span 40+ years.
Ciro met his beloved wife Rosemarie in November of 1966. They married in June of 1971, and spent the next 57 years inseparable, providing a good foundation and example for their only son, Joseph.
Ciro was a devoted family man. He cherished all the time spent at their summer homes in Marlboro, NY with his brothers Domenick, Tony and Frank and his sisters Fran, Vita, Nina and Terri. There is no in-law distinction in the Miceli Family. His love for his nieces and nephews was immeasurable.
Ciro was an avid fisherman, spending most of his free time surfcasting along the beaches of Long Island, where he was a legend in the saltwater fishing community.
But most of all, his happiest moments were spent at home with Rosemarie, Joey, Vanessa, and their Italian Greyhound Gigi.
He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through his family and friends.
