Felix "Papi" Colón

February 20, 1935 ~ June 6, 2022 (age 87)

Obituary

Papi  was simply the best…the best husband to his wife, best father to his children, and best grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family and friends fiercely and everyone loved him and always will.

Some of Papi’s favorite things in life were baseball, music, and movies…his favorite movie genres were westerns (he was a huge fan of Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson), horror, and action. His all-time favorite movie was GLADIATOR starring Russell Crowe and he watched it frequently.

Papi was a baseball fanatic.. He was a big fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and when they moved to LA, he became an even bigger fan of the NY Yankees.

Papi was also a big fan of music.  He always had music blasting at home and his favorite genres were salsa, merengue, and boleros. He also liked to dance salsa and merengue and to see him dance was a real treat.  You could tell he really was having a blast. Fun fact: His favorite song to sing at karaoke wasn’t a salsa or bolero song….it was actually James Brown’s “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag”.

There are so many things we are going to miss about Papi.  The twinkle in his eyes, the big smile on his face and infectious laugh whenever he told a joke or a true funny story.  The way he would sit in his chair and sing along to the songs blasting on the CD/tape player. The way he would greet his loved ones with a big bear hug.  The way he would always try to get his beloved wife to give him a kiss and dance cheek to cheek because he still adored her after all these years (and she still adored him).  The way he would get excited whenever we would take him to Dallas BBQs for special occasions (he loved their ribs) or to Yankee Stadium to see a game in real life.

Papi taught his children many things...  The value of working hard. Having pride in your roots and to never forget where you came from and to never forget about your family.  To remember to stay on your path and not let what other people think of you take you off that path. Also,

Simply put, Papi is and will always be our hero.  His family and friends miss him terribly but we know he will always be with us and that one day, we will see him again on the other side and that he will once again give us all a big bear hug like he did in this life.  Until then, Rest in Peace Papi…Te queremos mucho y para siempre. XOXO.
