Fresa Hernandez

Fresa Hernandez, 81, of Brooklyn NY, passed away on April 15th 2023 after suffering a massive stroke.
Fresa was born on January 25th 1942 to Anna and Manuel Garcia in Conuco Salcedo RD. After graduating from High School in Moca RD, Fresa started her first job as a secretary for the local government in the main municipal building. In 1961, Fresa met Mario in Moca, they got engaged and moved to New York City in 1962 where they were married at St. Martin of Tours.

Fresa and Mario went on to have 5 children, Mariano, Edward, David, Jovanna,and Mario Steven. They raised them together while managing several family businesses, including a car dealership, supermarket, several laundromats, and Fresa’s flower shop. Nothing brought Fresa more joy than knowing her children were happy and safe. She was very grateful to know that her children had excellent partners. To her, Maritza, Sharon, Kimberly and Gill were blessings and they loved her in kind.

A lifetime learner, at the age of 51 Fresa went on to pursue a degree in Liberal Arts, at Boricua College Brooklyn Campus. Education was always very important to Fresa and she wanted to lead by example.

A discerning woman of exquisite taste, Fresa enjoyed delicious food, shopping,and traveling abroad.
A dedicated member of her beloved church, Our Lady of Lourdes in Brooklyn, Fresa lead the choir every Sunday morning. She was also the treasurer of the Sacred Heart Association.

Fresa always put family first. She loved her entire family, despite their quirks and disfunction. She worried about them, rooted for them, protected them, corrected them, forgave them, and always kept loving them. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Her room was filled with the music that she loved. She leaves behind her 5 children, 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Fresa will be missed by all that knew her. Our hearts are so broken by this loss. She was one of a kind and to be loved by her was to be truly blessed.
