Born in Partanna, Sicily on January 22, 1938, Giovanni Mistretta was a pillar of the Ridgewood and Glendale community for over 60 years.
He first arrived in the United States in November 1963 with his beloved wife Maria who passed in 2010. Mr. John and his brother-in-law Joe opened Joe and John’s Pizzeria on Myrtle Avenue in 1968 which has been a mainstay ever since.
Mr. John was a member of several community organizations in the Ridgewood/Glendale area such as the Sociata Concordia Partanna Club. His service with the St. Gerard Maiella Society and Peter Cardella Senior Center will forever be remembered for the countless lives Mr. John helped.
Teacher, mentor, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Giovanni will always be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He is survived by his two children Cathy and Gaspare, his son-in-law and daughter-in-law Peter and Maria, his sister-in-law Maria, his grandchildren Daniella, Maria, Ariana, John, and Luca, his great-grandchildren Francesco, Peter, and Sergio, his grandchildren-in-law Anthony, Joseph, and Melissa, and his nieces Maria and Cathy.
