Josephine Rosa Obituary

Josephine Rosa
March 23, 1935 – January 21, 2025

It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt love that we announce the passing of Josephine Rosa, age 89, who was called to heaven on January 21, 2025. Born on March 23, 1935, in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Josephine was adopted and raised by her loving parents, Rogelio and Maria. She was a vibrant and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend—an irreplaceable light in the lives of all who knew her.

Josephine married Roman Rosa in December of 1955, and together they created a life filled with love and devotion. As a mother, Josephine embraced her children—Luis, Evelyn, Nilsa, Yvette, and Raymond—with unwavering care and strength. Her nurturing heart expanded to include her children’s spouses, Maritza, William, Jesus Manuel, and Maria.

Affectionately called Mama Josie, she was especially proud of her grandchildren (Luis Jr., Christina, Alex, Stephanie, Phillip, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Jasmine, Matthew, Jeremiah, Natalie, Samantha) and her great-grandchildren (Justine, Kenneth, Kaitlyn, Lucas, Cassandra, Wesley, Adrian, Sophia, Josiah, Román, and Sebastián). She was an incredible matriarch whose sweet-spirit and guidance will live on in generations to come.

Josie’s life was a beautiful example of faith, dedication, and service. She was an active member of Sinai Christian Church, where her spirit of generosity and love for others shone brightly. Her home was always open, and she never hesitated to lend a helping hand—whether it was visiting loved ones in the hospital, offering a compassionate ear and cup of Cafe Bustelo, or serving as a translator for friends and family in need. Her natural sense of grace and etiquette made her a beacon of light in any room, and her commitment to being there for others will never be forgotten.

She also had a passion for domestic life, from keeping an impeccably organized home to enjoying the simple pleasures of shopping. Her sense of style was always impeccable, and her practical knowledge of New York City bus routes made her a local legend. Fashionable, neat, and always with a smile, Josie’s presence was comforting, and her thoughtful approach to life touched everyone she encountered.

Above all, Josie was a woman who cherished the importance of family and community. Through an act of providence, she was able to reconnect with her biological sister and that reunion brought her much joy. Her deep love for family and relentless support of those around her memorialize Josie as someone who put others before herself in every circumstance.

As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, compassion, and faith will live on in the hearts of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Josie was truly a gift, and though she is no longer with us, her love will continue to guide and inspire us each and every day.

A celebration of Josephine’s life will be held at [Funeral Home/Church details].

Rest in peace, Josie. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
