Julia Deegan Obituary

Julia K. Deegan (nee Noonan) a life well lived was born February 26, 1922 and died peacefully on February 4, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas Deegan, her brother Michael and sister Catherine Jarzembowski. Julia was a loving mother to Michael (Angela) and Thomas (Phyllis), devoted Grandmother to Jackie Bouazizi (Rami) and Kenny and Great Grandmother to Nour Bouazizi. Julia Deegan was a wonderful, caring Aunt to the Noonan and Jarzembowski families Michael (Ann), John, Maureen (Chris St. John), James (Diane), Dorothy (Ken Mullane), Margaret (Dan Schultz) and Carol (James Sellian). She loved all of her many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Family and friends meant everything to her. Julia had countless people who loved her dearly. Julia Deegan grew up in Manhattan and The Bronx. She attended St. Jerome Grammar School and proudly graduated from The Academy of Mt. St. Ursula in just 3 years in 1939. Her devotion to Mt. St. Ursula continued throughout her life. She tried to attend her class reunions whenever possible. Julia and Tom’s life began on May 17, 1952. They were married almost 40 years until his death in 1992. Julia was always proud to talk about her son Michael’s job as Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of New York, Tommy’s lifelong work at IBM, her close relationship with her niece Margaret and Margaret’s sons Andrew, Liam and Aidan. Her pride also extended to the Noonan children and their many accomplishments. Julia Deegan’s other devotion was to her faith and St. Philip Neri her parish for more than 50 years. Julia volunteered there where ever she was needed Friday night Bingo, tending to the altar and even counting the Sunday collection money. Julia tried to attend Mass everyday not just on Sunday and prayed for anyone who needed prayers. She will be honored with a Wake on Monday, February 15, 2021 3:00pm – 8:00 pm at John J. Fox and Sons, 203 East 201st St, Bronx, NY.
