Luisa Esther Torres, aged 85, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2023, at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center in Brooklyn. She was born July 20, 1938, in Naranjito, Puerto Rico to Emilia Hernandez and Luis Torres. She spent her early years helping family in Puerto Rico and Brooklyn before they moved to Philadelphia, with Luisa Esther remaining in Brooklyn, where she lived for the rest of her life. She took up work in factories to make a living, and she was a small but mighty woman, garnering the respect of many nieces and nephews who viewed her as a second mother and nursing her disabled son David at home better than any trained medical professional could hope to. She was also a dedicated foster parent to several children throughout her life and a devoted caretaker to her grandchildren from early in their lives. She was a caring person to all she encountered. Towards her later years, she was struck with dementia, but lived her life and died on her own terms. She is predeceased by her parents Emilia and Luis, her siblings Provia, Justo, Luisa, Francisca(Paca), Luz-Maria, Carmen-Gloria, Alfredo, and her son David.
She is survived by her sisters Margarita(Margot) and Gladys, her sons Braulio and Richard, daughter in laws Raquel and Luz, her grandchildren Jhonathan, Elysia, Desiree, and Gene, great-grandchildren Max and Hendrix, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
