In Loving Memory of Rafael Llanos
November 13, 1944 – October 10, 2025
Rafael Llanos, 80, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Maimonides Community Hospital.
Rafael was born on November 13, 1944, in Puerto Rico to Eugenia Romero and Alejandro Llanos. He spent his early years in Carolina and Arecibo, Puerto Rico, where he was raised before moving to Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 18. It was there he met the love of his life and lifelong partner, Juana “Titia” Ortiz.
Rafi was a dedicated and faithful employee of Lee Springs, where he worked for over 50 years before retiring. He was a simple man with a big heart who found joy in life’s little pleasures. He loved watching cowboy movies, reading his novelas, and spending time outside to “mira las palomas,” as his beloved Juana would say. Known for his quiet humor and sharp wit, Rafi always had a funny comeback ready. He also enjoyed his classic TV shows like The Jeffersons and Sanford and Son. Whenever he thought he’d won a debate with Juana, he would proudly do the George Jefferson strut, making everyone laugh.
The Llanos family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Four Seasons Nursing Home, Maimonides Community Hospital ICU, and the Palliative Care Team, as well as to everyone who cared for Rafi over the years. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten.
Rafael is survived by his devoted wife Juana “Titia” Ortiz; his children Hector Delgado, Juan Delgado, Ricardo Maldonado, Felix Maldonado (Jessica), Patricia Maldonado, Rafael “Toy” Llanos, Daisy Llanos Thompson, and Alejandro Llanos; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro Llanos and Eugenia “Henia” Romero; his daughter Carmen “Tata” Rodriguez; his son George “Rocky” Maldonado; and his grandchildren Niam Kellman, William Agosto III, and Jaxstyn Fargas.
Rafi will forever be remembered for his humor, strength, and the love he shared with his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
