Sr. Genevieve Marie de Ste Anne was called home to the Lord on Saturday August 30th, 2025,
which was the Feast Day of our Mother Foundress St Jeanne Jugan, whom she loved very much.
Sr Genevieve was born Maureen Ann Lanahan on October 18, 1931 in Rockville Center, NY.
Her family moved to Brooklyn, NY and Sr Genevieve worked at Wall Street before entering the
Little Sisters of the Poor in 1953 where she made Religious Profession on June 22, 1955 and
Perpetual Vows on October 15, 1959.
This year Sr Genevieve celebrated 70 years of Religious Life as a Little Sister and served with
devotedness in our Homes in Savannah, Baltimore, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Evansville,
Pawtucket, the Bronx, Latham, and 22 years were joyfully spent caring for the elderly in
Queen of Peace Residence.
She shared her faith and love of God with others and for others, never hesitating to go the extra
mile and offer generous hospitality and charity to all those she met and cared for during her many
years of Religious Life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Lanahan and Margaret Sheehan as well as
several brothers and sisters and extended family members. Sr. Genevieve is survived by her
Religious sister, Sr Jean Aquinas Lanahan, OP and her brother, Fr Daniel, OFM and many nieces and
nephews along with many great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 3–7:00 p.m. on Thursday September 4, 2025 at Queen of Peace Residence
110-30 221 st Street, Queens Village, NY, with recitation of the Rosary at 4:45p.m. There will also
be visitation prior to the 10:45a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in the Chapel at
Queen of Peace Residence on Friday September 5, 2025.
Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
